A dark bay or brown horse, Seeking the Dia is strongly made and muscular with the typically good Storm Cat hip. His cannons are short and he has a good shoulder, but he appears sickle-hocked and somewhat upright in his pasterns.

Foaled in Kentucky, Seeking the Dia was bred by Richard Santulli’s Jayeff “B” Stables. He raced for Yoichi Aoyama and was trained by Hideyuki Mori. He entered stud in Japan in 2008 and in 2009 moved to Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm for the Northern Hemisphere season, standing there in 2009 and 2010. He also stood at Haras Matancilla in Chile for the Southern Hemisphere season in 2009-2012. In 2013, he stood the Northern Hemisphere season at Bridlewood Farm in Florida before returning permanently to Chile. He currently stands at Haras Don Alberto, Chile.

Seeking the Dia’s dam, Seeking the Pearl, a Group 1 winner by Japanese standards, was the first Japanese-trained horse to win a race in Europe, taking the 1998 Prix Maurice de Gheest (FR-G1). She is a half sister to Proof of Love (by Sunday Silence), second dam of Japanese Group 3 winner Tetradrachm. Both are out of the winning Seattle Slew mare Page Proof, whose stakes-placed dam Barb’s Bold is a Bold Forbes half sister to multiple Group 1 winner and American and French champion sire Lyphard (by Northern Dancer), to multiple Grade/Group 1 winner Nobiliary (by Vaguely Noble), and to multiple Grade 2 winner Barcas (by Sailor).
