Family 2-s
February 25, 1985 – October 4, 2014
Deputy Minister (CAN) x Silver Valley (USA), by Mr. Prospector (USA)
Family 2-s
Silver Deputy showed marked promise as a juvenile but was forced into retirement by injury before he could demonstrate his full ability. Retired to stud at a stud fee of only CAN$2,500, he quickly proved his worth by getting two-time Canadian champion Deputy Jane West in his first crop and was transferred to Kentucky. There he became a consistent and popular stallion just below the top rank. His male line persists through his son Posse, whose Grade 1-winning son Kodiak Kowboy is a sire of some importance in Brazil.
Race record
2 starts, 2 wins, 0 seconds, 0 thirds, US$41,820 (converted from Canadian earnings)
1987:

Weighted at 120 pounds on the Canadian Free Handicap for juvenile males of 1987, 10 pounds below champion Regal Classic.
As an individual
A plain-headed, rather short-necked but well-balanced bay horse standing 15.3 hands, Silver Deputy was marked by the powerful hindquarters typical of his maternal grandsire, Mr. Prospector. He suffered a career-ending knee injury after his victory in the 1987 Swynford Stakes.
As a stallion
According to statistics kept by The Jockey Club, Silver Deputy sired 694 winners (64.7%) and 88 stakes winners (8.2%) from 1072 named foals. Silver Deputy tended to transmit his own excellent balance and mechanical efficiency.
