The first Florida-bred to win the Kentucky Oaks, Wedlock was actually one of two Oaks winners in her year due to the race having been split into two divisions because of the number of entries. (Field size has since been limited to 14, with entry determined by a points system.) Wedlock achieved no other distinctions as either a racer or a broodmare.
Race record
39 starts, 6 wins, 6 seconds, 6 thirds, US$37,763
1959:
Assessments
Rated at 112 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American 3-year-old fillies, 14 pounds below High Bid and Silver Spoon and 6 pounds below her fellow Kentucky Oaks winner, Hidden Talent.
As an individual
A good-sized bay mare, Wedlock routinely struck her forelegs with her hind feet, often with such force that she returned from races and workouts with bloodied legs; corrective shoeing failed to improve the filly's gait. The problem was solved when owner-trainer Paul Shawhan pulled her shoes and started training and racing her barefoot, and she was unshod when she won the Kentucky Oaks. She retired to the paddocks after suffering a broken sesamoid.
As a producer
Wedlock produced three named foals, of which two started and one won. Her only daughter died without issue.
Connections
Wedlock was bred by Ocala Stud. She was owned and trained by Dayton, Ohio, realtor Paul Shawhan, who purchased her from a Florida breeders' sale in February 1958. She was ridden to her Kentucky Oaks win by John Rotz. In 1963, then in foal to Princequilllo, she was sold to Larry MacPhail for US$45,000 at the Keeneland November sale. She was last reported as barren in 1970.
Pedigree notes
Wedlock is inbred 4x5 to 1923 French champion sire Teddy and the great matron Plucky Liege through the full brothers Sir Gallahad III and Bull Dog, both champion sires and broodmare sires in the United States. She is a full sister to steeplechase stakes winner Ragtime Cowboy and to Quiet Hour, dam of multiple stakes winner My Boy K. K. (by Monitor). She is also a half sister to Cat Cat (by Tip-Toe), dam of multiple stakes producer Catching (by Restless Wind), and to Need Me More (by Needles), dam of multiple stakes producer Trail Mate (by Conestoga).
Softie, the dam of Wedlock, won one of her 16 starts. She is a half sister to 1943 Gazelle Stakes winner Anthemion (by Pompey), dam of two-time Aqueduct Handicap winner Bryan G. (by Blenheim II) and second dam of 1966 Gardenia Stakes winner Pepperwood. The next dam in the tail-female line, Sicklefeather (by Sickle), is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Par and to Devie, dam of juvenile stakes winner Nola Hash (by Hash); she is also a half sister to juvenile stakes winner Drury Lane (by Haste) and to Fairest (by Stefan the Great), second dam of 1952 Ohio Derby winner Carter's Pride.

Fun facts
- Wedlock was probably fortunate to have drawn into the first division of the Kentucky Oaks, as Hidden Talent won the second division in time 3/5 of a second faster while carrying 121 pounds to 116 on Wedlock.
- While she was still racing with shoes, Wedlock had dropped as low as racing in US$5,000 claimers.
