As a half brother to 1994 American champion turf male Paradise Creek and a son of a half sister to 1987 American champion turf male Theatrical, Wild Event could reasonably be expected to have an affinity for grass and to need time for maturation. Both were true of him, as he waited until age 4 to become a stakes winner and took down his Grade 1 win in the Early Times Turf Classic at age 6. He began his stud career in Florida but was eventually exported to Brazil, where he became a five-time champion sire and an important broodmare sire.

Assessments
Rated at 119 pounds on the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American turf males of 1999, 8 pounds below champion Daylami.
Rated at 118 pounds on the 1999 International Classification, 17 pounds below co-highweights Montjeu (a 3-year-old) and Daylami and 9 pounds below Dubai Millennium (a 3-year-old), Sendawar (a 3-year-old), and Victory Gallop in the 7-9 furlong division.
As an individual
A lengthy, athletic bright bay horse standing 16 hands, Wild Event appeared slightly back at the knee with hocks a little out behind him. He had an excellent shoulder, short cannons, and powerful hindquarters with good muscling well down into his gaskins. After racing with little success on dirt in the early part of his career, he was moved to turf in June 1997 and never looked back. The horse fractured a knee early in 1998 while at Gulfstream Park but was able to make a successful comeback. Jockey Ron Guidry said of him, “I can’t tell you how big his heart is.”
As a stallion
Wild Event won the Mossoró Trophy as Brazil’s “Stallion of the Year” in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2018. His last foals were born in 2018 on Southern Hemisphere time. According to statistics compiled by The Jockey Club, he has sired 819 winners (65.6%) and 113 stakes winners (9.0%) from 1249 named foals as of July 2, 2024.

Fun facts
- Wild Event’s victory in the 1998 W. L. McKnight Handicap led to a bittersweet celebration for owner Arthur Appleton and trainer Louis Goldfine, as both men had lost their wives during the preceding month. The two women were close friends and died only three weeks apart. After the race, Goldfine’s daughter called her father’s attention to a rainbow that had appeared over the Calder winner’ circle.
