- Saint Brigid, or Brigid of Kildare, is considered the “mother saint” of Ireland and is credited with having founded several nunneries, the most important of which was at Kildare. Her feast day is February 1. She is considered the patroness of blacksmithing, dairy production, learning, livestock, poetry, and protection, mirroring the ancient Celtic goddess Brigid.
