In a brief but brilliant career, Candy Ride became a champion in his native Argentina and proved himself a top-flight racehorse in the United States. In spite of this, he retired to stud with modest expectations, based partly on the disappointing stud careers of South American-bred standouts such as Gentlemen, Siphon, and Sandpit. He has since gained a reputation as a sire of top-flight runners in the range from 7 to 10 furlongs.

Honors
Argentine champion miler (2002)
Assessments
Rated at 127 pounds in the Intermediate category on the 2003 International Classifications for his performance in the Pacific Classic, 6 pounds below overall highweight Hawk Wing but tied with Mineshaft (who earned his rating in the Woodward Stakes, USA-G1) as highweighted among dirt males and tied with Juddmonte International Stakes (ENG-G1) winner Falbrav as the best performer in the Intermediate category.
As an individual
A bay horse, Candy Ride stands 16 hands and ½ inch. He is short-coupled, well-balanced and athletic but has small feet. He was forced into retirement by an injury to an ankle ligament. He was easy to train during his racing days.
As a stallion
Candy Ride is a good source of miler speed, athleticism and the desire to win but often passes on his own small feet. His good ones have come in a variety of shapes and sizes and have run well on dirt, turf and synthetic surfaces. He has shown an affinity for mares tracing to Storm Cat.

Fun facts
- Candy Ride's Beyer speed figure of 123 for the 2003 Pacific Classic (USA-G1) was the highest figure for any horse running in the United States that year.
- Although Candy Ride only made six starts in officially sanctioned races in Argentina and the United States, he actually made a number of starts at 2 in what is called "country racing" in Argentina. These races, typically over sprint distances as short as 2 furlongs, carry little purse money but are popular as betting instruments. Candy Ride's record in these unofficial races is unknown, but he had seen enough action and been sufficiently successful that a considerable reputation preceded him to his first official race.
