Bred in France from American parentage, Liloy was a good racehorse but not top-class. He was exported to Argentina, where he made a good name for himself and might have achieved still more had he not been exported to the United States in 1982. In 1989, he was sent on to South Africa, where several of his Argentine-sired foals had met with marked success.

A rich bay horse standing 16.1 hands, Liloy had the prominent withers and sloping croup typical of the Nasrullah tribe, along with a sweeping shoulder and excellent hindquarters. He had a high-strung disposition.

Liloy won the Pellegrini Award as Argentina’s Stallion of the Year in 1981. According to records kept by The Jockey Club (which may be incomplete), he sired 178 winners (38.1%) and 37 stakes winners (7.9%) from 467 named foals.
