On paper, Carson City was just another nice sprinter when he retired to stud. He was also a little on the small side, although well-made. Thus, he didn't attract much attention as a new stallion. By the time he died at the regrettably early age of 17, it was a different story as he had earned recognition as a consistent source of quality speed. Like both his sire and his broodmare sire, he also proved a good sire of producing daughters, and his male line was continued by his son City Zip.

Fun facts
- In American geography, Carson City is the capital of the state of Nevada, a position it has held since the state entered the Union in 1864. Named for the famous frontiersman Kit Carson, the city was founded as a stopover for California-bound emigrants but became an important population center of the Utah Territory during the 1859 Comstock Lode silver rush.
- Carson City was among the horses “started” by the noted horseman Monty Roberts, who gained fame for his “natural horsemanship” method of using equine body language to communicate with and train horses.
