Class Play rounded into top form during the spring and early summer of her 3-year-old season, her four-race winning streak culminating in victory in the Coaching Club American Oaks (USA-G1). Unfortunately, she never won again and proved to be a better racer than broodmare, though two of her daughters had some success as producers.

Foaled in Kentucky, Class Play was bred and owned by Peter Brant. She was trained by LeRoy Jolley. Class Play produced her first four foals for Brant before passing to the ownership of Ogden Mills Phipps and Claiborne Farm. She produced four more foals for her new owners before being consigned to the 1996 Keeneland November mixed sale, in foal to Deputy Minister. She changed hands for US$65,000 and became the property of Hugo Lascelles and Anthony Stroud. The following year, she went back to Keeneland November, in foal to Our Emblem, and was sold for US$32,000. She produced her last two foals for the partnership of Berkshire Stud and Oak Cliff Breeders Inc. After aborting a Holy Bull foal in 2006, Class Play was pensioned at Berkshire Stud in New York.
