On pedigree, Forestry could have been almost anything. On performance, he was a high-class sprinter-miler. Generally a source of miler speed as a stallion, he sired two outstanding North American runners in Discreet Cat and Shackleford and also sired several top-level runners in South America.
Race record
11 starts, 7 wins, 1 second, 2 thirds, US$591,225
1999:
Assessments
Rated at 119 pounds in the Daily Racing Form's Free Handicap for American sprinters of 1999, 7 pounds below divisional champion Artax (a 4-year-old) and 1 pound below the best 3-year-old sprinter, Yes It's True.
As an individual
A handsome, lengthy, powerful bay horse, Forestry had the strong body and hip typical of Storm Cat’s progeny but with more scope and leg length than most of Storm Cat’s other runners. Forestry consistently passed on his own size and good looks, making him a popular sales sire.
As a stallion
According to statistics compiled by The Jockey Club, Forestry has sired 84 stakes winners as of December 28, 2023.

Fun facts
- Forestry sired The Green Monkey, whose US$16 million sale price at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Florida February sale of 2-year-olds in training was a world record for a Thoroughbred sold at public auction. The Green Monkey failed to win in three starts and had an undistinguished career at stud before being euthanized in July 2018 due to laminitis.
