Weekly Trivia Challenge for 7/22/16

7/22/2016

This future racing champion and Classic winner was such a nasty piece of work as an unraced youngster that he was slated for gelding. He was reprieved on the day of the operation because pre-surgical examination revealed that he was a ridgling and surgery to remove the undescended testicle would have been too risky. The change in plans proved most fortunate; not only did the wayward colt prove to be the best of his generation, but he became a champion sire as well. Name him.

A.P. Indy is indeed a ridgling, but this was known when he was sold as a yearling. So far as I know, he was never a candidate for gelding either. Keep trying!

This was a tough one, Ms. Hunter! You're putting us through our paces. I went through all of the descendants of Hastings, Hail to Reason, *Ribot , Dynaformer… and finally remembered St. Simon. It’s Diamond Jubilee.

You've found him, Pot-8-os! Diamond Jubilee, who escaped castration, ended up winning the English Triple Crown and was a four-time champion sire in Argentina.
