While not the most consistent filly around, Make Sail had her moments every year that she raced and was always dangerous when a hot pace up front set things up for her late-running style. She was a fairly successful broodmare.

- Make Sail was the second of a record five Kentucky Oaks winners for National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame trainer Woody Stephens, who also won with Hidden Talent (1959), Sally Ship (1963), White Star Line (1978), and Heavenly Cause (1981).
- Make Sail was also one of four Kentucky Oaks winners for Cain Hoy Stable. The others were Lalun (1955), Hidden Talent (1959), and Sally Ship (1963). All four were homebreds.
