An exceptionally consistent racehorse who finished worse than second only twice in his career, Medaglia d'Oro was the best racing son of El Prado on dirt and has also been his best sire son on that surface as well as succeeding with turf horses. While best remembered as the sire of the magnificent American fillies Rachel Alexandra and Songbird, he has proved capable of getting top runners of both sexes and has had some success with European and Australian runners as well.
