Lone speed is always dangerous in a race, and in the 1994 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (USA-G1), One Dreamer was that speed. Allowed to control the pace in front of a star-studded field, One Dreamer hung on with utter determination to score an upset over Heavenly Prize at 47-1, the longest odds for any winner of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Unfortunately, she was a highly disappointing broodmare.

As an individual
A big, robust gray mare, One Dreamer was late to mature. She was at her most dangerous when allowed to control the pace.
As a producer
One Dreamer produced eight named foals, of which four started and one won. Her only foal of significance was unraced Our Dreamer (by Storm Cat), dam of two-time Senator Ken Maddy Stakes (USA-G3) winner Broken Dreams (by Broken Vow) and multiple Venezuelan listed stakes winner Gran Leon (by Put It Back). Through Broken Dreams, Our Dreamer is the second dam of multiple Grade 2 winner Caribou Club.
Connections
Bred and owned by Leonard H. Lavin's Glen Hill Farm, One Dreamer was trained by Thomas F. Proctor. She was ridden to her Breeders’ Cup Distaff score by Gary Stevens. She remained the property of Glen Hill Farm throughout her broodmare career.
Pedigree notes
One Dreamer is inbred 3x4 to The Axe II, a top grass horse and good sire. She is also inbred 5x5 to the speed influence Spy Song and the good broodmare Penroyal through the full siblings Royal Note and Penasang. She is a full sister to Grade 2-placed multiple listed stakes winner Lonely Girl, dam of stakes winner Four Plus Four (by Major Impact; a multiple stakes producer).
One Dreamer is out of the winner Creatively, whose dam Betty Sherrill (by Bagdad) is an unraced half sister to multiple stakes winner Hot Oil (by Damascus) and to Mystique Traveller (by Pretense), dam of juvenile stakes winner Group Process (by Journey At Sea). The next dam in One-Dreamer’s tail-female line, Lead Time, is a winner by The Axe II out of Penasang, a winning full sister to Arlington Futurity winner Royal Note and a half sister to 1952 Stars and Stripes Handicap winner Royal Mustang (by Easy Mon) and multiple stakes winners Phar Mon (by Easy Mon) and Great Dream (by Gray Dream).
