Foaled in Brazil from purely North American heritage, Redattore took some time to come to his best form but became a top-level winner in both North and South America. His success in the United States was particularly remarkable as it represented a comeback from a knee injury that required surgery. He was not particularly successful while at stud in California but became a champion sire in his native country.

Assessments
Rated at 120 pounds in the Mile category on the 2003 International Classifications for his performance in the Frank E. Kilroe Mile, 13 pounds below overall highweight Hawk Wing (who was also the top turf runner and top miler based on his performance in the Lockinge Stakes, ENG-G1).
As an individual
A strong, good-looking bay horse, Redattore had a deep shoulder, prominent withers, and a short back. His hindquarters were powerful and he was well muscled through his forearms and gaskins. He was at his best over 8 to 9 furlongs and was a free-running sort who generally preferred to be on or near the lead. “He loves to win,” said trainer Richard Mandella. Redattore was retired due to an ankle injury suffered in April 2004.
As a stallion
According to statistics kept by The Jockey Club, Redattore has sired 528 winners (58.1%) and 41 stakes winners (4.5%) from 909 named foals of racing age as of July 2, 2024.

Fun facts
- In Italian, "redattore" means "editor."
- Redattore was actually the first mate chosen for Love the Chase, then freshly retired from racing, but she did not conceive from her 2010 mating. Her majority owner, Perry Martin, wanted to go back to Redattore but could not as the horse remained in Brazil after the 2010 Southern Hemisphere season, and Martin chose Lucky Pulpit as the next best match available; the result was two-time American Horse of the Year California Chrome.
