Family 1-x
A good but not outstanding 3-year-old, Roar was not quite up to the standards for stallions at his birthplace, Claiborne Farm, and entered stud at Lane's End Farm mostly on the strength of his excellent pedigree. He was something of a disappointment in Kentucky and California but was something else again in Argentina, where he became a champion sire and helped establish his sire Forty Niner as a successful sire of sires. In North America, he is perhaps best known as the broodmare sire of 2009 American Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra.
Race record
12 starts, 4 wins, 1 second, 4 thirds, US$487,507
1996:
As an individual
A bay horse standing 16.1-1/2 hands, Roar was a larger, somewhat lengthier edition of his sire. He had the typically strong Mr. Prospector hindquarters but perhaps with a little more angulation in his hind leg than for most horses of this male line.
As a stallion
Roar earned the Pellegrini Award as Argentine Stallion of the Year in 2004. According to records kept by The Jockey Club, Roar sired 416 winners (62.4%) and 42 stakes winners (6.3%) from 667 named foals. Roar's book was limited from 2005 onward due to fertility issues. Roar was primarily an influence for miler speed.

He transferred to Rancho San Miguel in California for the 2003 Northern Hemisphere season and remained there through the 2008 Northern Hemisphere breeding season. After that, he relocated to Haras La Esperanza in Argentina and died there in October 2008. His last registered foals were California-breds of 2009.

Fun facts
- Although Roar was officially bred by Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider, they became the breeders of record only through the purchase of his dam, then carrying him, at the 1992 Keeneland November mixed sale. The mating that produced Roar was actually arranged by Paul Mellon, Wild Applause's previous owner.
