A good allowance filly over sprint distances, Ruby Slippers was not much if any short of stakes class but earned her only black type in a “Q” race or “Qualified Allowance” (a classification that was accorded black-type status in North America for several years in the 1980s). She proved a better broodmare than racer and has contributed significantly to Thoroughbred bloodlines as the second dam of two-time American champion sire Tapit.

Following the birth of her fourth foal, the Private Account filly Private Slippers, Ruby Slippers was sold to Heronwood Farm in a private transaction. She changed hands again at the 1997 Keeneland January mixed sale, going to Orpendale for US$350,000 while in foal to Affirmed.

Ruby Slippers, in turn, is out of Moon Glitter, a stakes-winning full sister to multiple Grade 3 winner and important stallion Relaunch and a half sister to stakes winners Belle o' Reason (by Hail to Reason; second dam of multiple Grade 2 winner Chimes Band) and Battle Call (by Native Charger).
The next dam in Rubiano's tail-female line, Foggy Note (by The Axe II) was a multiple stakes winner. She is a full sister to Miss Sarah, dam of stakes winner Master Thatch (by Thatch), and is a half sister to Grade II-placed stakes winner Forward Charger (by Native Charger). Produced from the Royal Note mare Silver Song, Foggy Note is also a half sister to Retsinado (by Ridan), second dam of four stakes winners including 1979 Canadian International Championship Stakes (CAN-G1) winner Golden Act and Grade 3 winner Majestic Shore.

Fun facts
- In the movie version of The Wizard of Oz, the Ruby Slippers were a substitute for the Silver Shoes of the book, as the producers felt that silver shoes would not show up well enough on screen. To activate the Slippers' magic, the wearer (Dorothy) had to tap the heels together three times and speak the wish of her heart—in Dorothy's case, to return home to Kansas from the Land of Oz.
