A full brother to 1964 American juvenile male Bold Lad, Successor was likewise a champion at 2 but was a very different physical type more closely resembling the brothers' maternal grandsire, Princequillo. In keeping with his appearance, Successor showed more stamina than Bold Lad but was not as brilliant. He was an unsuccessful stallion in a short stud career.
