The best 2-year-old of his crop in Canada, Talkin Man showed well during the 1995 American Triple Crown prep season and was one of the favorites for the Kentucky Derby (USA-G1). Unfortunately, he was badly beaten in that race after racing prominently into the stretch and fared no better in the Preakness Stakes (USA-G1), after which he was retired. He was not a successful stallion but did sire 2004 John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (USA-G1) hero Better Talk Now.

Connections
Foaled in Ontario, Talkin Man was bred by Bud Wilmot's Kinghaven Farms and Arthur and Helen Stollery's Angus Glen Farm. He raced for the partnership of Helen Stollery and Kinghaven Farms until a week before the 1995 Kentucky Derby (G1), when Peter Wall bought a one-third interest in the colt. He was trained by Roger Attfield. Talkin Man entered stud in Kentucky in 1996 at Walmac International and stood there through 2000, also shuttling to Haras Don Alberto in Chile. He then stood at Anson Stud in Canada before being relocated to Anshoon Stud in County Kilkenny, Ireland, following the 2002 breeding season.
Pedigree notes
Talkin Man is inbred 3x4 to 1966 American Horse of the Year and four-time American champion broodmare sire Buckpasser. He is also inbred 5x5 to five-time American champion sire Nasrullah and to 1958 Canadian Horse of the Year Nearctic. He is a half brother to Grade 1-placed listed stakes winner Royal Regalia (by Cozzene) and to Alyette (by Alydeed), second dam of South African Group 3 winner Fair Rosalind.
Talkin Man's dam Pookette won the 1989 Ontario Damsel Stakes, a race restricted to fillies bred in Ontario. She is a half sister to Markham Fair (by Woodman), dam of Grade 3-placed stakes winner Slew the Mark (by Slew City Slew), and is out of 1982 Ontario Colleen Stakes (CAN-G3) winner Pensioner (by Irish Stronghold). Pensioner, in turn, is a half sister to Victorium (by Lord Durham), dam of listed stakes winner Lord Ruckus and Canadian restricted stakes winner Lordly Ruckus (both by Bold Ruckus); to Village Leader (by Vice Regent), dam of multiple German stakes winner Victorine (by Homing); and to Lady O'Lyph (by Lyphard), second dam of Grade 3 winner Sea Siren.
Pensioner and her siblings are out of stakes-placed Stone Cottage (by 1959 Canadian Triple Crown winner New Providence), a half sister to 1977 Hollywood Oaks (USA-G2) winner Glenaris (by Sassafras) and to multiple Canadian stakes winner Gallant Glen (by Gallant Man).
