Family 10-c
When E.P. Taylor set reserves on his yearlings of 1968, Vice Regent had one of the highest at CAN$100,000. No one wanted the colt at that price and Taylor ended up keeping him, which was probably his intention to begin with. Vice Regent was never able to live up to either his high price tag or his status as a full brother to Canadian champion Viceregal on the track, but he more than made up for his failings in the breeding shed, winning more Canadian sire titles than any other horse in history.
Race record
5 starts, 2 wins, 1 second, 0 thirds, CAN$6,215
Vice Regent won his maiden race by 14 lengths but was plagued by injuries for the rest of his brief career.
Honors
Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame (inducted in 1989 based on his accomplishments as a stallion)
As an individual
A 16.2 hand chestnut horse, Vice Regent had a tremendous shoulder and hip but was not very sound and was forced into retirement by repeated injuries. Although he was rather coarse and heavily built, he had an attractive head and the excellent balance typical of the Northern Dancer tribe. He commanded respect for his size and power but was a reasonably good-natured stallion.
As a stallion
According to the reference work Great Thoroughbred Sires of the World, Vice Regent led the Canadian general sire list 13 consecutive times. He was honored by induction into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame based on his performance as a stallion. According to The Jockey Club, Vice Regent sired 469 winners (68.5%) and 103 (15.0%) stakes winners from 685 named foals. The Blood-Horse credits Vice Regent with 105 stakes winners (15.3%). Vice Regent often bequeathed a tough attitude to his foals.

Fun facts
- Vice Regent is honored by a stakes race at Woodbine Race Track, part of the Ontario Sires Stakes series.
- Vice Regent's soundness woes may have begin when he was frightened by a car not long after his maiden race. The colt fell into a ditch and hurt himself, and it is questionable whether he was ever again 100 percent sound.
