One of the better French-raced juvenile fillies of her year, Coup de Folie did not advance on that form as a 3-year-old. It was as a broodmare that she proved exceptional, producing two champions (including a successful sire) from five Group stakes winners and extending an important branch of the family of Almahmoud.

He ranked seven times among the top 10 French general sires but got only 16 stakes winners from 1263 named foals, suggesting that he earned his rankings primarily on the earnings of a large number of minor winners.
