Dispute was typical of the top runners for the Phipps family in the 1990s. A beautifully bred filly from a family that had been producing top-flight horses in a line tracing back to Wheatley Stable (which in turn drew on generations of Whitney breeding), she became a first-rate race mare in her own right. She was a highly disappointing broodmare considering her own pedigree and performance, but several of her daughters have had some success as producers.
