This great performer had the nervous habit of chewing on his own hooves when in his stall, but that didn't stop him from racking up an illustrious race record that earned him entry to the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame and many other accolades. Among his other accomplishments, he still holds the record for the fastest 6-furlong split by a Travers Stakes winner, getting the opening six panels in 1:10 flat. Name him.

Good guesses, all. Man o' War still holds the record for the fastest 6-furlong split for a Travers winner, getting the first six panels in 1:10. His final time of 2:01-4/5 set a new track record and remained the stakes record until Jaipur clipped a fifth off it in 1962 in his famous duel with Ridan. Holy Bull's 6-furlong split of 1:10-2/5 was the second fastest. General Assembly, whose final time of 2:00 remains the stakes and track record, ran his first 6 furlongs in 1:11-1/5.
