The historic Champagne Stakes (USA-I) has seen many fine winners, including two fleet-footed youngsters who set world records for a mile by a juvenile in the race---in back-to-back years. Who were the colts involved, and what were their record-breaking times?

Was it Successor who won the 1966 Champagne Stakes going a mile in 1:35. And in 1967 Vitriolic bettered that time when he won the Champagne in 1:34.60 ?

Good guess, but not quite. Vitriolic did, however, break the record of the second of the pair of colts I'm thinking of.

Alsab won it going 1:35.2 and Count Fleet broke his record the following year going 1:34.80....That hint helped:>) Vitriolic bested the Count when he won going 1:34.60.
