Bred along lines similar to champions Durazna, Twilight Tear and Bull Page, Miss Dogwood was not quite up to championship standard but was a good, consistent stakes filly nonetheless who tackled males and females alike. Good enough to beat 1941 American champion 2-year-old filly Petrify at level weights in a special race at Keeneland in October 1941, she went on to win the 1942 Kentucky Oaks and a couple of good Midwestern sprint races as a 4-year-old. She was also a high-class producer, throwing three stakes winners and becoming the third dam of the great sire Mr. Prospector.
