Buckpasser (USA) x Missy Baba (USA), by Tulyar (IRE) or My Babu (FR)
Family 3-l
A half sister to six stakes winners, Toll Booth proved only modestly talented on the track. In the paddocks it was a different story, as she produced seven stakes winners including American champion sprinter Plugged Nickle and was named Kentucky Broodmare of the Year in 1991. Although her branch of the family has not bred on quite as prolifically as her half sister Gay Missile's, it still continues to produce good horses.
Race record
22 starts, 3 wins, 3 seconds, 5 thirds, US$32,330
As an individual
A bay mare, Toll Booth stood about 15.3 hands. She was feminine with clean, correct legs and a close-coupled build but was not very impressive-looking and was perhaps a trifle light on bone.
As a producer
Designated as a Reine-de-Course by pedigree analyst Ellen Parker, Toll Booth produced 12 named foals. All started and 11 were winners. Her important foals are as follow:
Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Toll Booth was bred and owned by John Schiff. She became the foundation mare for Schiff's Fox Ridge Stud. She was sold to Lazy Lane Farms for US$475,000 at the 1987 Keeneland November mixed sale.
Pedigree notes
Toll Booth is outcrossed through five generations. She is a half sister to five other stakes winners including 1977 Arlington-Washington Futurity (USA-G1) winner Sauce Boat (by Key to the Mint), 1980 American leading sire Raja Baba (by Bold Ruler) and 1970 Ashland Oaks winner Gay Missile (by Sir Gaylord), a notable producer in her own right. She is also a half sister to graded stakes producers Sooni (by Buckpasser) and Pennyworth (by Key to the Mint).
Toll Booth's dam Missy Baba was produced from 1941 Irish Oaks winner Uvira II (by Umidwar). She is a half sister to the stakes-winning colts Colonel O'F (by Teddy's Comet), Noble Impulse (by Bull Dog), General Staff (by Mahmoud), Parnassus (by War Admiral), and Francis U. (by Francis S.). She is also a half sister to Obedient (by Mahmoud), dam of the good stakes winners Iron Ruler (by Never Bend; a useful sire) and Don't Alibi (by Alibhai); to Navira (by Nasrullah), dam of multiple stakes winners Royal Comedian (by Tom Fool) and Chateauvira (by Chateaugay) and second dam of multiple stakes winner Tanagra; to Purdah (by Nasrullah), dam of multiple stakes producer Scatter Plan (by Quadrangle); to Blarney Bess (by Tulyar), second dam of 1994 Dubai Champion Stakes (ENG-G1) winner Dernier Empereur and European Group 3 winners Petipa, Prattle On and Sarasota Spring; and to Oonagh (by Sword Dancer), dam of multiple Grade 2 winner Hunza Dancer (by Hawaii).

- Plugged Nickle (1977, by Key to the Mint) was the American champion sprinter of 1980 but won Grade 1 races at up to 9 furlongs. A light-boned horse with very bad feet, he threw dished feet to many of his progeny and was a disappointment as a sire. He was exported to South Africa in 1988.
- Tokens Only (1978, by Youth) won the 1981 Starlight Stakes. She produced 1990 Prioress Stakes (USA-G2) winner Token Dance (by Sovereign Dancer), dam of 1995 Cowdin Stakes (USA-G2) winner Gator Dancer (by Pleasant Colony).
- Banker's Favorite (1979, by Lyphard) was stakes-placed on the track. She is the dam of Grade 2-placed listed stakes winner Libor (by Sir Ivor), the second dam of Puerto Rican champion imported 3-year-old filly Bankers Favorite and the third dam of Grade 2 winner Kettleoneup.
- Idle Gossip (1980, by Lyphard) won the 1983 Lakewood Stakes and was Grade 3-placed. She is the dam of Idle Son (by Sharpen Up), a stakes winner in Italy and the United States, and is the second dam of Grade 3 winners Solvig and Lady Carlock and 2008 Svensk Derby winner Swing That Cat.
- Toll Key (1983, by Nodouble) won the 1990 Dania Handicap.
- Key to the Bridge (1984, by Key to the Mint) won the 1988 Beaugay Handicap (USA-G3). She is the dam of 1994 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (USA-G2) winner Islefaxyou (by Storm Bird) and the third dam of multiple Grade 3 winner Hot Summer.
- Toll Fee (1985, by Topsider) won the 1989 Weber City Miss Stakes and placed in four graded stakes during her racing career. She is the second dam of 2011 American Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, multiple Grade 1 winner Riskaverse, 2014 Belmont Stakes (USA-G1) winner Tonalist, and Grade 3 winners Cozzy's Corner, Tasteyville and Bouquet Booth.
- Christiecat (1987 by Majestic Light) won the 1992 Flower Bowl Handicap (USA-G1) and four other graded stakes. She is the dam of multiple Japanese stakes winner Excuse.
