While he was a good miler and had a beautiful pedigree, Rahy's small size and preference for turf were strikes against him when he entered stud. He overcame both to become a remarkably versatile stallion and one of his sire's best sons at stud. He was particularly noted as a sire of fillies and broodmares.

A chestnut horse, Rahy stood 15.1 hands and had excellent overall conformation. He was lengthy for his height and had a strong, straight hind leg. As a stallion, Three Chimmeys stallion manager Sandy Hatfield said of him, “He kicked harder and faster than any of our other stallions.”

Connections
Foaled in Kentucky, Rahy was bred by Hill 'n' Dale Farm. He was owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, who purchased him for US$2 million at the 1986 Keeneland July yearling sale. He was trained by Sir Michael Stoute during his racing career in England and by Neil Drysdale as a 4-year-old in the United States.
Rahy entered stud in 1990 in Kentucky at Three Chimneys Farm, which had purchased a 50 percent interest in him following his racing career. He remained at Three Chimneys throughout his breeding career. He was pensioned following the 2009 Northern Hemisphere breeding season after failing to get any of his 2009 mates in foal. He died at Three Chimneys in 2011 and was buried at the farm.
